Updating data in a linked table is not supported
In the queries, I applied the Total and I selected the option Where By, trying to identify certain records. However, all the items in my database are already in quotation marks, and therefore the Where By option cannot pick up anything when I run the query.Hi: I am working with an XLS file, andhave Access 2000. You will have to work out a different method: Perhaps delete the file and create a new empty file, or perhaps use Excel Automation to clear or delete the data, or perhaps just update all of the data to zero/blank.When I try and clear the xlf file (so that xls can use it for additional data), I get an error message: "Deleting data in a linked table is not supported by this ISAM. (david) "John Baker" Hi: I am working with an XLS file, andhave Access 2000.When you link a table, the table looks and performs in most respects like a Microsoft Access table.
BUT I am not updating the linked file I am updating the other table, is there a way to work around (please keep in mind performance is everything) Linked file: IIB_XREF Other table: GRID_XREF Query: UPDATE GRID_XREF INNER JOIN IIB_XREF2 ON IIB_XREF2.
Because the connection information in this case is not stored with a table definition, there is no link between the external table and a Microsoft Access database, and an icon for the table will not appear in the Database window.
In many cases, linking is the faster method for accessing external data, especially when the data is located in an ODBC database.
External data falls into two categories: indexed sequential access method (ISAM) and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).
The ISAM data sources are traditionally computer-based databases.
